Disney Lorcana Wilds Unknown Brings Pixar Characters and New Gameplay in 2026. When Disney Lorcana first arrived in August 2023, it didn’t just enter the trading card game world… it exploded into it.
Released by Ravensburger in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, the game immediately grabbed the attention of longtime card players and Disney fans. What made Lorcana stand out wasn’t just the gameplay, it was the emotional connection. For the first time, fans could see characters like Mickey Mouse, Rapunzel, and Winnie the Pooh reimagined on beautifully illustrated cards in a strategic and collectible format.
And it wasn’t just players who were interested. Disney collectors quickly jumped in too, wanting these cards as part of their collections.
The debut set, The First Chapter, launched on August 18, 2023 in hobby stores before expanding to major retailers, and from day one it was clear something special was happening. Lines wrapped around stores. Cards sold out almost instantly. At events like Gen Con, fans waited hours just to get their hands on starter decks and booster packs.
Even before wide release, rare promo cards were already reselling for hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. The demand was real.
But unlike some collectibles that are driven purely by hype, Lorcana had something more going for it… it’s genuinely fun to play.
Now, the game is entering a brand new chapter with Wilds Unknown.
This new set introduces Pixar characters, new locations, and more to the game. Along with that, we’re getting a new Illumineer’s Trove and a 2 Player Starter Set releasing in May. Pre release begins May 8, 2026, with the full global release set for May 15, 2026. I was lucky enough to receive a package from Ravensburger to check out early, and this set is shaping up to be a big one.
Pre release boxes are also part of the excitement. These are only available if you attend a pre release event and include 6 booster packs, 1 of 3 themed postcards, a paper deck box, 4 damage dice, a rules sheet, and 1 of 6 new promo cards. If you miss out, you’ll still be able to grab booster boxes, the Illumineer’s Trove, and the 2 Player Starter Set when the set officially launches.
Wilds Unknown takes Lorcana in a fresh direction as Illumineers and glimmers head into a more adventurous setting. Even if you are not following the full story, you’ll notice right away that many characters have new looks that match that theme of exploration. The biggest highlight here is the arrival of Pixar characters into the game.
As a Pixar fan, this is something I’ve been really looking forward to. There are a ton of new Toy Story cards to collect and play, including one I’m especially excited about, the “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” Enchanted card. You’ll also see plenty from The Incredibles and Brave, so expect characters like Merida and the Parr family popping up as you open packs.
If you’ve heard about Lorcana but haven’t jumped in yet, this is a great time. The new 2 Player Starter Set is the perfect entry point, giving you two ready to play decks, rules, and everything you need to learn the game with a friend.
You might also be wondering what an Illumineer’s Trove is. Think of it as a premium storage box for both players and collectors. It’s designed to hold your cards and accessories while also acting as a collectible piece on its own.
The Wilds Unknown Illumineer’s Trove includes:
- 1 lore counter
- 6 damage counter dice
- 6 card dividers
- 8 booster packs (12 randomized cards each)
- A themed storage box featuring Disney and Pixar characters
The dividers feature characters like Woody, Buzz, Mrs. Incredible, Gadget, Merida, and Audrey Ramirez, while the booster packs highlight Woody, Merida, and Gadget.
Another new addition to this set is location cards, also called biomes. These introduce three new areas: the jungle Wilderknot, the mountainous Torchlight Peaks, and the desert Great Empty Sea. These cards add new strategy elements by providing lore and environmental effects during gameplay.
There are also some new gameplay features to keep an eye on. A new card classification for Toy Story characters adds fresh synergy, and there are 12 Traveler Glimmers that activate special abilities when certain conditions are met during play. On top of that, the Enchanted cards are getting a new art style inspired by Art Nouveau, which collectors are going to love.
Overall, Wilds Unknown feels like a big step forward for Disney Lorcana. Between the addition of Pixar, new gameplay mechanics, and some really beautiful card designs, this set brings something fresh to both players and collectors. Whether you’ve been playing since day one or you’ve been on the sidelines thinking about jumping in, this might be the perfect time to get involved. One thing is clear, Lorcana isn’t slowing down anytime soon, and it continues to prove why it’s become one of the most exciting trading card games out there.
