Big Change Coming to Disney Springs Transportation: Bus and Boat Access Now Restricted to Resort Guests Starting June 28. If you’ve been using Disney Springs as a free parking hack to catch a resort bus or boat over to the theme parks, that era is officially coming to an end. Walt Disney World is making a major and permanent change to how guests access resort transportation at Disney Springs, and it goes into effect on June 28, right ahead of the July 4th holiday week.

Here’s what’s happening: beginning June 28, guests will be required to verify their eligibility before boarding any resort-bound bus or watercraft departing from Disney Springs. This is not a temporary test or a seasonal trial. Disney is making this permanent. Cast Members will be stationed at the Disney Springs bus loop scanning MagicBands and tickets, just as they did during trial runs around New Year’s and again during the busy Easter season. Both of those tests were considered highly successful at freeing up capacity and keeping transportation moving for actual resort guests.

What’s new today is the confirmation that the watercraft are also being included in this policy change. The Sassagoula Water Taxi and other resort boat transportation departing from Disney Springs will now be subject to the same verification process. That means boats headed to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, including the Treehouse Villas, will all require guests to show eligibility before boarding.
So what counts as eligible? To clear the verification checkpoint at Disney Springs, you’ll need one of the following:
An active Walt Disney World resort hotel reservation, a confirmed dining reservation at a Disney resort hotel, or a confirmed resort recreation activity booking such as a boat cruise.

If you don’t have one of those, you won’t be able to board. It’s pretty simple, and honestly, it makes a lot of sense. This policy directly targets a well-known workaround where day guests would park for free at Disney Springs and then hop on resort buses to get to the theme parks without paying for parking. That practice has been creating overcrowding on buses and boats for paying resort guests for years, and Disney has clearly decided enough is enough.
For now, this verification process is limited to Disney Springs. However, Disney is reportedly evaluating whether to expand scanning to other transportation hubs and transit options across the resort in the future, so this may be just the beginning of a broader shift in how Walt Disney World manages its transportation network.

If you are a resort guest, nothing changes for you. Your MagicBand or reservation confirmation gets you on board just as it always has. If you were planning a Disney Springs day trip and were counting on hopping a bus over to a park or a resort, you will now need to make other arrangements, whether that is driving directly, using the Disney Springs parking garages, or arranging your own transportation.
This is a notable change for the Disney Springs experience, and one that will likely be felt most during busy travel periods when bus and boat lines tend to back up. What do you think about this new policy? Is this a long overdue fix or an added hassle for your Disney Springs visits? Let us know in the comments!
