Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser may have closed its doors back in 2023, but the fandom it left behind is still very much alive, and it is about to get the documentary treatment in front of two major crowds this summer.
Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of Disney’s Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is a feature-length documentary that follows one passenger’s journey from casual curiosity to full-blown obsession with the immersive, award-winning, and ultimately short-lived Star Wars experience at Walt Disney World. The film traces the attraction’s ambitious launch, its brief but devoted run, and its eventual closure, all through the eyes of the fans who lived it.
The documentary is led by producer and researcher Carly Kocurek, who teamed up with director Carrie Coaplen to bring the project to life, along with Emmy-nominated producer Ben Daughtrey. The film was largely funded through Kickstarter, where it far surpassed its goal, pulling in $81,680 from 749 backers against an original $50,000 target.
Halcyon Daze has already been making the rounds on the festival circuit, with screenings at the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, Indy Film Fest, and the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, where it took home the award for Best Fan Documentary. It has also been named an official selection at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation, and Technology, earning a nomination for Most Innovative Documentary.
