Season 2 of ‘Disney Jr. Ariel – The Little Mermaid’ Splashes Onto Disney+ Wednesday, Jan. 28! We have some fun news to share with you today, especially for those with little ones! The animated musical series inspired by The Little Mermaid invites viewers to dive under the sea with a young mermaid princess who’s always ready for adventure. The show follows Ariel as she explores her vibrant, Caribbean inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica, taking on fun adventures with her best friends! Each episode blends humor and music as Ariel learns more about her world and herself along the way. It’s a cute show!
Fans of the original film will be thrilled to hear a familiar voice this season. Disney Legend Jodi Benson, who brought Ariel to life in the beloved 1989 animated feature! Jodi guest stars as Marina Neptina, Ariel’s favorite singer. Her appearance adds nostalgia for longtime fans while introducing a new generation to an iconic Disney talent. We all love Jodi Benson!
The series features a fabulous cast, with Mykal Michelle Harris leading as Ariel. Taye Diggs lends his voice to King Triton, Amber Riley voices Ursula, and Gracen Newton plays Ariel’s loyal bestie, Flounder. Rounding out Ariel’s inner circle are her mer-friends Fernie and Lucia, voiced by Cruz Flateau and Elizabeth Phoenix Caro.
In the second season, the adventure expands even further. Ariel and her friends discover a magical new undersea realm known as the Crystal World, opening the door to more journeys and adventures! Along the way, they meet new companions, including the daring mermaid Akiko, voiced by Kai Zen, and her adorable crystal axolotl, Axyl.

The series has also been earning industry recognition, recently receiving a CAFE EmmyⓇ Award nomination for Outstanding Original Song for a Preschool Program, as well as an NAACP Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Series. Beyond the adventures, the show celebrates the rich multicultural diversity of the Caribbean. Music, food, festivals, fashion, language, and folklore all play an important role in shaping the world of Atlantica. To ensure authenticity, Dr. Patricia Saunders, professor of English and hemispheric Caribbean studies and director of graduate studies at the University of Miami, serves as the series’ cultural consultant, helping bring depth and cultural richness to Ariel’s underwater world.
