Kathryn Hahn Could Be Our Mother Gothel in New Live Action ‘Tangled’ Film! Earlier this week, we announced that a live action version of the Disney movie Tangled is indeed a go. Earlier in 2025, Disney made the announcement that this project was going to be shelved after their newest version of Snow White didn’t do well at the box office. Being a huge Tangled fan myself, I was OK with this as I was worried about how a new version of Tangled would be presented. Milo Manheim and Teagan Croft are taking on the roles of Flynn and Rapunzel, but what about the evil Mother Gothel? Well, the streets are talking as they say, and we have the scoop!
I think that actress Kathryn Hahn would be an excellent Mother Gothel, and that actually could happen! Previously, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson was in talk to play the antagonist who was in the hit 2010 film. When news broke about Johansson’s interest in Mother Gothel, fans began to lobby online for the WandaVision and Agatha All Along actress Kathryn Hahn.
Kathryn Hahn is actually in talks to play Mother Gothel, according to various sources across the news media. Disney has not made any comment or announcement as of yet. Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) will direct the project, set to roll later this year. Kristin Burr (“Freakier Friday,” “Cruella”) is producing from a script by multi-hyphenate Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Someone Great,” “Do Revenge,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer”).
I don’t know about you, but I think she is the perfect fit for this classic villain role. There is no confirmation or official word on Kathryn Hahn being in the new film, but as soon as I hear something, I definitely will report on it. Stay tuned for more!
