New Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’ Trailer Shocks Some Fans With Diversity Changes

Disney recently released the first trailer for its upcoming live-action film “Peter Pan and Wendy,” which has sparked some outrage online as the promo featured female Lost Boy characters.

This live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale tells the story we’re familiar with: that of a boy who wouldn’t grow up and recruits three young siblings in London to join him on a magical adventure to the enchanted Neverland island. Although, in this new version of that classic tale there is the inclusion of kids that are not just boys, which is pointed out by Wendy in the trailer.

“But you’re not all boys,” says Wendy.

“So?!” One of the girls replied.

This is the first time we’ve seen the story told with this change and some fans have taken to the internet to share their mixed feelings on the re-imagining of the classic story.

“idc i WILL be streaming. just need them to take the girls out of the lost boys though i’m so sorry i’m all for girl power but the whole point of the lost boys is that they’ve never seen a girl before,” Twitter user stomprry wrote.

Another Twitter user kwaylewis commented, “Looks terrible. Hook looks bad, Tinkerbell isn’t Tink and the Lost Boys became girls now?”

YouTuber Jayne Theory wrote, “The Lost BOYS are girls now, smh… And considering the rest, I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t just name the film ‘Wendy,’ at this point.”

The Forces of Light Entertainment channel explained, “The whole point of Wendy and Tinker Bell was to include girls in the appeal of Peter Pan. Lost ‘boys’ being girls is just stupid…Girls were already included in this world.”

The movie is set to premiere on the streaming platform Disney+ on April 28.
