Disney’s next major film in the MCU, “Black Widow,” is still set for release in theaters, according Disney CEO Bob Chapek. The executive revealed the film’s cinema status during Tuesday’s shareholder call following speculation the company might hold off on releasing the movie until later in the summer.

Black Widow” was originally due out in theaters over a year ago. However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was indefinitely pulled from theaters. Mid-last year it was announced the film would be released on May 7, which Chapek confirmed again in yesterday’s call.

“Next up is Marvel’s highly-anticipated spy thriller, Black Widow, featuring an all-star cast that includes Oscar Nominee Scarlett Johansson currently set for release in theaters on May 7. I know Marvel fans have been looking forward to this film for a long time and I promise you it’s well worth the wait. It’s absolutely fantastic.” said Chapek.

Below is the official storyline for the film from IMDB:

At birth the Black Widow “aka Natasha Romanova” is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. Written by rianmistry

It’s no secret that movie theaters have been struggling to remain operational following the pandemic, which caused the indefinite closures of many cinema chains around the world. Late last year, several major movie chains (Regal Cinemas, AMC) reopened. Although, their reopening were met with restrictions and few patrons.

Following the reopening of Regal Cinemas, the company decided to re-close their doors due to a lack of visitors at theaters around the U.S. At this time, Regal Cinemas has not announced an official reopening date.

AMC and several other movie chains remain open in the United States and around the world. However, they are with social distancing measures and other restrictions limiting the number of movie goers aloud in theaters.

Will you be heading to theaters May 7 to see “Black Widow” when it premieres? Let us know in the comments!
