Is our beloved Johnny Depp starring in a Musical? From what we’ve heard, it’s almost a done deal! Here at TMSM, we are huge Captain Jack Sparrow fans as you know, so we were excited to hear that Disney is featuring Johnny Depp in an upcoming project. The Broadway Musical, “Into the Woods,” is being made into a feature film, and Mr. Depp is in talks to play the lead role. This would be the first singing role for him since he made Tim Burton’s, “Sweeney Todd” a few years back.
Into the Woods is a darkly comic remix of classic fairy tales that revolves around a childless Baker and his wife, who attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the Witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, they encounter a group of characters including Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. Meryl Streep is in negotiations to play the part of the Witch.
In production of this new film, Johnny Depp will be working with Rob Marshall, who directed Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Also, the same musical producer/composer that worked on Sweeney Todd will be working on “Into the Woods” as well. It’s great to see Disney keeping Johnny Depp on their roster for upcoming films!
