We are all well aware of all the fun things that you can do inside the parks at Walt Disney World, but did you know about all the exciting things you can do at the resorts?  Recently my family stayed at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds and participated in some new and fun activities that we never thought about doing at Walt Disney World, so I wanted to share one of them with you.

Did you know you could go fishing at Walt Disney World?  We did cane fishing at Port Orleans a few years back and this past week we discovered fishing at Fort Wilderness.  At Fort Wilderness you can bring your own fishing gear or if you are newbies like my family, they rent it to you and the prices are not bad at all.  You can rent it by the half hour for $10 or the whole day for $16.  The first day we tried it we opted for the half hour because we weren’t sure if the kids would like it, but guess what, they loved it, so the next day we opted to rent it for the whole day.  They also provided worms or nightcrawlers for a small fee ($5-$6) and for us those worms lasted two days.  Whatever we didn’t use the first day they stored in their refrigerator for us to use the next day at no additional fee.

At Fort Wilderness they have several different fishing locations to choose from and they will provide you with a map to scope out the best location.  The scenery is absolutely stunning too.  The first day we fished off a dock close to the Bike Barn (rental area) and the next day we adventured over to a more secluded area that you had to walk through a path in the woods to find.  That’s an adventure in itself.  The great thing about Fort Wilderness is there is so much wildlife to see.  On this trip we encountered so many beautiful birds, turkey, and deer.

Our family really enjoyed fishing at Fort Wilderness and we created so many great memories.  The kids are already asking when they can go fishing again.  So what are you waiting for?  Go off the beaten path of Walt Disney World and check out the fishing at Fort Wilderness.  You will be glad you did!
