First Look: The Wetlands Recreation Area Revealed for Disney Lakeshore Lodge. Disney just gave fans their first real look at one of the most exciting amenities coming to Disney Lakeshore Lodge, and it has us even more excited for this resort’s summer 2027 opening. In today’s Letters from Lakeshore update, Disney Parks Blog unveiled details on The Wetlands, a sweeping outdoor recreation area set just beyond the lobby along the shores of Bay Lake.
The Wetlands is being designed with both relaxation and family fun in mind, and Disney is leaning hard into the resort’s nature inspired theming to make it happen. Younger guests will get their own whimsical wet and dry play areas inspired by the music and storytelling of Pocahontas, with the design celebrating the playful bond between nature’s creatures found throughout the film’s beloved soundtrack. Heron Shores will bring imaginative climbing features for hands on exploration, while just around the bend, Otter Springs will offer interactive water play perfect for splashing and sliding on a hot Florida day. For guests who would rather kick back, the lazy Daydream River will carry them along at a leisurely pace while they soak in the surrounding scenery.
At the heart of it all sits Lakeside Lagoon, the resort’s zero entry feature pool open to guests of all ages, complete with a spiral waterslide dropping right into the water. On the opposite side of the resort, Perspective Pond rounds things out with a quieter leisure pool and whirlpool spa, positioned to give guests front row views of Magic Kingdom fireworks each evening.
Disney also confirmed that a scenic path will wind through the recreation area, sharing fun facts about the local plants and wildlife guests encounter along the way. There is also a fun nod to Disney World history built in, as a special plaque will honor a beloved historic attraction that once stood on this very spot, something longtime Disney World fans are already trying to guess.
And of course, since Lakeshore Lodge sits right on Bay Lake, all of this fun in the sun is just a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom. Staying at the resort will also come with the usual Disney World hotel perks, including complimentary transportation across property and extra time to enjoy the parks.
