Disney World Adds New Magic Kingdom Ferryboat. Big changes are happening at Walt Disney World Resort, and they are not just inside the parks. As Magic Kingdom Park prepares for major expansion, Disney is also enhancing how guests get there. One of the most relaxing and iconic transportation options is about to get even better, with a brand new ferryboat joining the fleet for the first time in decades.

First Disney World Ferryboat Since 1976
If you have ever taken the ferry across Seven Seas Lagoon, you already know it is more than just transportation. It is part of the experience. Watching Magic Kingdom come into view as you glide across the water is a moment many guests look forward to.
Now, that experience is getting an upgrade.

For the first time since 1976, Disney is expanding its ferry fleet that transports guests between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. A brand new ferryboat is currently being built and is expected to launch in 2027, bringing the total number of ferries at Walt Disney World to four.

This new vessel is no small addition. At 120 feet long, it is a major investment in guest experience and capacity. The ferry is currently being constructed at a marina in Florida and will soon be transported in sections to Walt Disney World, where it will be assembled, painted, and finished with all the final details.
That process will take about a year, but once complete, it will seamlessly join the existing fleet that guests already know and love.
Naming the New Ferryboat
Along with the new ferry comes a meaningful addition to Disney history. The vessel will be named after Meg Crofton, the fourth president of Walt Disney World. This continues a long standing tradition of honoring individuals who played a major role in shaping the resort.

Meg Crofton’s Disney Legacy
Meg Crofton began her Disney career in 1977 and went on to lead Walt Disney World from 2006 to 2013. During her time as president, she oversaw one of the most significant expansions in the park’s history.
That expansion included the creation of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, which introduced experiences like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Be Our Guest Restaurant. She also played a key role in the opening of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, a fan favorite that brings animated stories to life in a larger than life way.

Her impact went beyond attractions and resorts. She was known for her leadership and her dedication to cast members, always focusing on helping others grow and succeed.
When the new ferry launches, guests will be able to see her portrait displayed on board, along with details about her contributions to Walt Disney World.

The new ferry will match the look and feel of the current fleet, ensuring that it blends perfectly into the experience guests already enjoy. And for those who love taking the ferry, this is great news.
There is something special about standing on the upper deck, feeling the breeze, and watching the castle come into view. It is a simple moment, but one that feels unmistakably Disney.

As Walt Disney World continues to grow, it is clear that even the journey to the parks is part of the magic. This new ferryboat is not just about increasing capacity, it is about enhancing an experience that so many guests already love. When it finally sets sail in 2027, it will carry both guests and a legacy that has helped shape Disney World into what it is today.
