Six Flags Announces Plans to Sell Seven Theme Parks in Major Portfolio Shift. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has announced a pretty big move for the company. The regional amusement park giant revealed that it has reached agreements to sell seven of its parks to EPR Properties in a deal worth $331 million in cash.

According to the company, the decision is part of a larger effort to streamline its portfolio and focus more on the parks that offer the strongest long-term growth opportunities.
The parks included in the sale are:
Valleyfair – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Worlds of Fun – Kansas City, Missouri
Michigan’s Adventure – near Grand Rapids, Michigan
Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston – Galveston, Texas
Six Flags St. Louis – St. Louis, Missouri
Six Flags Great Escape – Queensbury, New York
Six Flags La Ronde – Montreal, Quebec
Together, these parks welcomed about 4.5 million guests in 2025 and generated roughly $260 million in revenue.
Six Flags says the money from the sale will primarily go toward paying down company debt, which should help strengthen the company’s overall financial position.
Six Flags President and CEO John Reilly shared that the decision is part of a broader strategy to focus the company’s time, resources, and investment on parks that have the most potential for growth in the future.
While selling parks is never an easy decision, Reilly acknowledged how important these locations are to both their guests and the employees who help bring them to life every day. He also expressed confidence that the parks will continue to thrive under their new ownership.
EPR Properties plans to work with Enchanted Parks to operate the six parks located in the United States. Meanwhile, Six Flags La Ronde in Montreal will be run by La Ronde Operations, Inc., a company owned by industry veteran Kieran Burke.
For guests visiting these parks, the transition shouldn’t bring any immediate changes. The parks will continue to operate on their normal schedules, and season passes already purchased will still be honored through the 2026 operating season, including multi-park access where applicable. EPR will also retain the right to use the Six Flags brand through the end of 2026 while the transition takes place.
Looking ahead, Six Flags says it plans to operate 34 parks across 23 locations in North America during the 2026 season.
The transaction is expected to officially close sometime between late first quarter and early second quarter of 2026, pending approvals and other closing conditions.
For fans of these parks, it sounds like the goal is to keep things running smoothly while the ownership change takes place. Guests should still be able to enjoy their favorite rides, events, and seasonal offerings without disruption during the transition.
