The resort marked the occasion with a ceremony at the entrance of Disneyland, celebrating a legacy that stretches back nearly 71 years and reinforcing its status as The Happiest Place on Earth. Fittingly, the milestone landed just days before Disneyland’s 71st anniversary, a reminder that Walt Disney’s original dream is still drawing families in generation after generation.

An Unsuspecting Family Makes History

The honor of being the billionth guest fell to eight-year-old Andres Robles of Arizona, who arrived at Disneyland with his parents, Alejandra and Jose Robles, expecting nothing more than a fun day out to celebrate his birthday. Instead, the Robles family found themselves at the center of Disney history.

The family was brought onto the Main Street, U.S.A. train station platform for a surprise ceremony with the Disney Ambassadors of Disneyland Resort, where they helped unveil an updated population sign reading 1,000,000,000. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made a special appearance to join in the celebration, and Jill Estorino, President of Disneyland Resort, was on hand to personally greet the family. Donald Duck and Daisy Duck also joined Andres and his parents for a photo opportunity following the ceremony.

As part of the celebration, the Robles family received a VIP tour for the day, including a look inside Walt Disney’s private apartment above the Main Street firehouse, a visit to the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction, and other experiences reserved for truly special occasions.

A Legacy Seven Decades in the Making

Disneyland park opened in 1955 with a concept that didn’t exist before it: a family park where parents and children could have fun together. That idea launched the modern theme park industry and set Disneyland on a path to becoming a worldwide icon of imagination and innovation.

In the decades since, Disneyland Resort has grown into a full-fledged destination with two theme parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District, all while inspiring the creation of Disney parks around the globe. As the resort crosses the one billion guest mark, it continues investing in creativity, technology, and storytelling, staying true to Walt Disney’s belief that “Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world.”
