The Disney/Fox Deal is now Complete

March 19, 2019

As of March 20th, 12:02 am the Disney and Fox deal will finally be complete.  The deal was first announced by Disney in December of 2017.  Disney, already being a huge powerhouse in the entertainment industry, will become even larger by tomorrow morning.  The deal cost a reported $71.3 billion and has now been approved by all involved.  This morning, 21st Century Fox tweeted out

21ST CENTURY FOX ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF DISTRIBUTION IN CONNECTION WITH DISNEY ACQUISITION

Here is a small list of some of the properties Disney will now have control over.

X-Men, Deadpool, The Fantastic Four, The Simpsons, James Cameron’s Avatar, Family Guy, American Dad!, King of the Hill, Bob’s Burgers, Alien and Predator franchises, The X-Files, American Horror Story, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ice Age, RIO, Home Alone franchise, Miracle on 34th Street, The Sound of Music, the Planet of the Apes franchise, Modern Family and This Is Us just to name a few.

In addition to the films and franchises above, Disney acquires all 80 years of films done by 21st Century Fox.

20th Century Fox Television has a subsidiary, Fox 21 Television Studios, that primarily makes programming for cable channels. Disney would also acquire FX Networks in this deal, including the channels FX, FXX and FXM as well as the studio FX Productions.

As its been announced, Disney is creating their own streaming service to compete with Netflix and other services.  With this deal though, Disney will now own 60% of Hulu.

Disney now gets the full distribution rights to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the only thing they didn’t get in the deal with Lucasfilm.

With so many characters and franchises Disney will now own, makes me wonder how this will effect Universal and their fan favorite Halloween Horror Nights.  Alien, Predator and America Horror Story have all been incorporated in the past with the Halloween event.

You maybe wondering, what is Fox going to be moving forward.  The merger will see the creation of New Fox and a separation agreement that transfers to the company assets Disney won’t be involved with, namely a portfolio of 21st Century Fox’s news, sports and broadcast businesses, including the Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Sports, Fox Television Stations Group, and sports cable networks FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes and the Big Ten Network.
