The Walt Disney Company continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to supporting the military community with the return of the Disney Veterans Institute. Designed as a complimentary one-day seminar, the program helps organizations develop stronger career pathways for veterans and military spouses while fostering meaningful conversations about workforce inclusion, hiring practices, and long-term career success. The 2026 series officially kicked off on June 4 in Washington, D.C., bringing together leaders from government, business, and nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering military-connected talent.

As part of Disney‘s Heroes Work Here initiative, the Disney Veterans Institute serves as a platform for collaboration, education, and action. This year’s opening event welcomed policy leaders, human resources professionals, talent acquisition experts, civic organizations, and military advocates for a day focused on creating greater opportunities for veterans and military spouses transitioning into civilian careers.

The event began with keynote remarks from U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins, who discussed the importance of supporting veterans and expanding workforce opportunities. Following the keynote, Collins participated in a fireside chat with Susan Fox, Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Government Relations at The Walt Disney Company, exploring ways organizations can continue advancing employment initiatives for the military community.

Throughout the day, attendees heard from experts and individuals whose personal experiences highlighted both the challenges and successes veterans and military spouses encounter when entering the civilian workforce. Tinisha Agramonte, Senior Vice President and Chief Opportunity & Inclusion Officer at The Walt Disney Company, moderated a featured panel focused on career transitions, mentorship, and creating pathways to professional growth.

“What made this day so impactful was the consistent theme of community — employers, collaborators and advocates united by a shared commitment to honoring our nation’s heroes,” said Agramonte. “As a military spouse, this work is deeply personal. We gained practical, actionable insights from organizations leading in this space while sharing Disney’s best practices to help drive continued progress.”

The event was supported by several organizations committed to veteran success, including honorary sponsor Wounded Warrior Project, along with Tyson Foods, GE Vernova, McDonald’s, and Partners Federal Credit Union.

Key discussions throughout the seminar focused on actionable strategies organizations can implement to improve hiring outcomes, strengthen workplace culture, and create more accessible recruitment experiences for military-connected candidates. Topics included recognizing transferable skills, fostering belonging through leadership and workplace culture, expanding mentorship opportunities, and helping veterans and military spouses navigate career mobility and advancement.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came during the event’s closing celebration when Mickey Mouse surprised attendees with the public debut of his new patriotic look created for Disney’s upcoming America 250 celebration. Participants received a first look at the commemorative attire, adding a touch of Disney magic to an already inspiring event.
