Paul Bettany says he would be up for WandaVision season 2 if it ever happens. Bettany reprised his role as Vision in the Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe series, which premiered on January 15 of this year. The series earned significant acclaim from critics and audiences, with Bettany himself picking up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The first Marvel Phase IV project to be released, WandaVision shows Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff grapple with her grief following Avengers: Endgame, as the undoing of Thanos’ snap restored her to life, but not her beloved Vision. The series initially unfolds as a mystery in which Wanda and Vision inexplicably share an idyllic suburban life that seems to reflect the progression of American sitcoms, only to reveal that Wanda herself is generating this illusion, and enslaving a town’s worth of people in the process. WandaVision received praise for exploring trauma through Wanda’s development, culminating in her embracing her powers and becoming a fully realized Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision currently has no plans for a season 2, but according to his recent comments to ET from the Emmys red carpet, Bettany would gladly be a part of one. When asked directly if the show was coming back, he jokes that he’s nominated in the limited series category, which makes a return look pretty unlikely. However, Bettany says, “I’m already in. If it’s there, I’m in.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bettany tells an amusing story of how he learned about WandaVision after believing his time in the MCU had come to an end. Called to a meeting with Kevin Feige, the English actor assumed this was goodbye, and he cut off the Marvel Studios head to thank him for a great ride. “And then [Feige] said, ‘Are you quitting?’ And I went, ‘No, are you firing me?'” Bettany says. “And then he pitched me the show, and it was amazing.”

It’s likely Marvel fans are split on the possibility of a WandaVision season 2, and not because they wouldn’t want to see more of Bettany’s performance. Whatever else it set out to do, the series accomplished its goal of giving the love between Wanda and Vision a proper eulogy, and many fans might feel that a season 2 would only cheapen their goodbye. Others might want a season of WandaVision that puts a new-and-improved Scarlet Witch together with White Vision, whose whereabouts are unknown as of the season 1 finale. Regardless of any arguments for or against, however, Marvel has been clear they have no plans to continue the series, and with so much currently in the pipeline, there’s no telling what the MCU would look like whenever they could make new episodes.
