Disney’s Characters in Flight

May 23, 2021

Soaring to a height of 400 feet and overlooking Disney property and the surrounding area is a truly magical experience. Whether you’re a local or vacationing in the Orlando area, you will definitely want to check out the spectacular Aerophile Balloon ride at Disney Springs.

Also known as “Characters in Flight,” you can find this balloon ride near the large Starbucks, in between The Landing and The West Side. Holding 29 people and the captain, there is no age limit for riding the balloon.  This makes it a wonderful activity for the entire family! While the ride itself is just 8-10 minutes, you will see so much as you view the surrounding area. Be sure to bring a camera because you’ll want to capture all the wonderful views!

There are some “know before you go” details that will definitely help you out. The weather can definitely play a part in making sure you’re able to take off. Conditions have to be just right because with Disney, it’s safety first, of course! The balloon is tethered and won’t go higher than 400 feet. With that being said, if winds exceed a certain speed, they will ground the balloon until weather conditions improve. We found it best to be flexible with our schedule, as the weather can change quite quickly in Central Florida. If able, it’s best to change your schedule if you’re able.

I always find that it’s best to look for a deal. The balloon ride is $20 for children (ages 3-9) and $25 for adults (ages 10 and up). We were lucky to score an awesome deal on Groupon, with adults paying the price of a child’s ticket. My advice would be to see what is available for discounts before you go.

Expectant mothers should not ride the balloon. Also, as with many rides, It is not recommended for anyone who is prone to motion sickness or heart troubles to ride the balloon.

Finally, one last tip! If you’re looking to just ride the balloon and not visit the rest of Disney Springs, I suggest parking in the Orange garage. This is nice and close to the balloon ride, as well as the Coca Cola store, Planet Hollywood, and DisneyStyle.

Riding the Aerophile balloon ride truly is a magical experience. On a clear day, you’ll be able to view Disney property and get a birds-eye view of the Orlando area!  For more information, check out Disney’s website or visit Characters in Flight.
