Disney Reveals New Retractable Lightsaber for Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

Today is May the 4th and in celebration of this special Star Wars holiday Disney has released new details of their upcoming Star Wars-themed hotel the Galactic Starcruiser–including a look at its all-new retractable lightsabers!

The lightsaber can be seen in the video below, which was released by Disney earlier today. In the video, you can see an actress, who looks similar to Rey, wielding the lightsaber around after it retracts from its base. Similar to in the films, the lightsaber emerges with a glowing blue blade from its hilt.

In a release, Disney describes the new lightsaber, saying: “Yes, that’s a new type of lightsaber Rey is holding in her hand, created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. Guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see it in action – along with so much more – starting in 2022 when this amazing new two-night adventure debuts. Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds.”

At this time, it’s not known if guests will be able to purchase these lightsabers, similar to the ones available at the handbuilt lightsaber experience at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.

As we previously shared, this experience recently raised its prices by $20 at both theme park resorts.

Additionally, from this release, it’s worth noting that we’re not sure if these lightsabers will be able to be handled by guests or if they’re only for actors (cast members) working at the hotel.

What are your thoughts on this new retractable lightsaber? Let us know in the comments!
