Based on Marvel’s comic book series the Avengers,  Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ran from 9/22/10 until 5/5/13 on Disney XD.  The series had a continuing plot through season that would build on the viewers knowledge of Marvel Heroes and Villains. To help better introduce younger viewers to the Marvel Universe,  the 20 episode mirco-series was created. This series was made up of 5 1/2 minute long micro-episodes that were made up of footage from season one. This micro-series helped introduce viewers to the members of the Avengers in a more in-depth way than the Marvel Live-Action movies did.

The first season focuses on 75 of the Marvel Universe’s most dangerous super-villains all escaping from various holding facilities at the same time. To capture these villains,  “five of Earth’s mightiest heroes assemble a crime-fighting alliance called the Avengers.” Initially the first season focuses on Iron Man, Iron Man, Giant-Man, Hulk, Thor, and Wasp but as the story line continued Captain America, Black Panther, and Hawkeye join the Avengers and the battle to recapture the escaped villains.

Season two continues the search for escaped villains, while better exploring the Skrull invasion and the Kree. The second season sees the introduction of a lot of Marvel universe characters like Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Wolverine, the Winter Soldier, and Galactus. Ms. Marvel and Vision also join the Avengers team in season two.

After 56 22-minute long episodes, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes concluded with the episode “Avengers Assemble!” which showed the Avengers and their allies battling Galactus. In 2013 the show Avengers Assemble, which would better follow the live-action movie story lines, premiered on DIsney XD.
