Today, October 28th, Marvel made some very big announcements for the Cinematic Universe and fans on hand were very excited.
The event took place at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, CA at 11:00am PST. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, took the stage and greated the crowd. He thanked Hydra for releasing the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron the other day and then the crowd got to see it on the big screen.
After the trailer, reports came out that Joss Whedon was in the house. The crowd was thanked for making Guardians of the Galaxy the #1 movie of the year and then Kevin told the crowd he wanted to talk about Phase 3.
The first announcement was that Captain America 3 would be released on May 6, 2016. During the event, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans both took the stage and the name of the film will be Captain America: Civil War. If you know from the comics, Civil War breaks out as the governments of the world want regulations and the super ones are not in agreement on what should be done.
The next big announcement was that Doctor Strange will hit theaters on November 4, 2016. Scott Derrickson will direct the film. Feige was asked during the event about casting and he stated that if there was news of casting, he would have told us today.
It was announced that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on May 5, 2017. Also, Thor: Ragnarok! will come out on July 28, 2017. Feige told the crowd that Ragnarok! means “The End of All Things”.
One of the biggest announcements was next, on November 3, 2017 Black Panther will hit the big screen. Chadwick Boseman will play the character in the upcoming film, and he even showed up during the event on stage while Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were there.
The next big announcement was that Captain Marvel will be released on July 6, 2018 and will follow the path Carol Danvers who takes on the title role.
On November 2, 2018, the Inhumans will get their shot at the box office.
The next announcement was really a big one. The date May 4, 2018 was shown and the Infinity Gauntlet, it was then announced that Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 would be released on May 4, 2018 with part 2 coming on May 3, 2019.
So there you have it, the Marvel Cinematic releases through 2019. After the announcements were made, the fans exited so that the press could have a Q & A with Feige. No big news came out during this time. He was asked when they decided this event would take place. Feige stated he wanted to do it at San Diego Comic Con this past year, but they were still finalizing everything.
It was also asked, when would we see Black Panther and Captain Marvel for the first time. Black Panther will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War and Captain Marvel in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. No casting for Captain Marvel was available yet, but the writer and director will be announced first.
The media wanted to know would there be a solo movie for Hulk and there is no word on that, just that he will be in the films with his friends. They also asked about a film for Hawkeye, Howard the Duck, Phase 4 and Black Widow. In regards to Hawkeye, Howard and Phase 4, Kevin had no announcements and said to let the rumors continue. In regards to Black Widow, she like Hulk will be in the Avenger films but there are plans for her own film, but she will be a key, key role as it was put in future films.
It was asked when we would see the Inhumans, and the response was sooner than we are probably expecting. One question I was interested in and didn’t get an answer either way was in regards to Spider-Man and coming to the Universe. Kevin say there is no confirmation till it’s official or he knows. So he didn’t say no to Spidey coming over to this side of Marvel, but he didn’t confirm it either.
This is a lot of big announcements for the Marvel fans and it looks like we are all going to be at the movies alot over the next few years. As more news comes out, we will be sure to pass it along.
