MY Top Ten Disney Villains

top 10 villains

Like a lot of people, I’m a big fan of the different Disney Villains.  I decided to share my list of my, and I stress the word MY,  top 10 Disney Villains.  First wanted to decide if the list should be any Disney Villain or just animated ones.   The live action villains like Davy Jones, Loki, Queen Larissa, and the Queen of Hearts are all evil. The actors who play these characters all did an amazing job and I’m sure Walt would be very happy with the portrayals.  The live actor villains are great, don’t get me wrong.  Well after much deliberation I decided to go with just the animated or stop motion villains.   I’m not saying the animated ones are better or worse,  I just wanted to stick with one particular type.   The characters can be from any film released by Disney owned property.   Pretty much as long as a live actor didn’t portray the villain on the screen, then it can be counted.

Now I want to add a disclaimer to this list. You may agree or disagree with any of the choices, these are my opinions.  We all like one character or another for some reason.   If everyone felt the same about what characters they like,  Disney could have just stuck with Mickey and Pete and never created another one.   But they created such a universe of characters that everyone can find at least one hero they like and one villain they like to hate.   That is one thing in common with just about every Disney film ever, a hero and a villain.   Now on to my list.

10: Doctor Facilier from The Princess and the Frog

Dr facilier

Any Doctor who works with friends from the other side can’t be that good of a guy.   He is able to take people and learn what they want and what they fear most and uses that to his benefit.   The voodoo Doctor will do anything and work with anyone in order to gain more power.   One thing he does always, he keeps his word with what he promises, no matter how much the victim suffers because of it.

9: Hades from Hercules

Let’s see, he has hair of blue fire, Greek God of the Underworld, and authority over the dead.   Hades also has jealousy of his brother Zeus and wants to take his position as King of the Gods.   Plus just how good can someone be with the name Hades?

8: Jafar from Aladdin

Just looking at Jafar I think you wouldn’t want to become friends with him.  He is a psychopath who will not hesitate to destroy anyone he views as a threat.  Even though his physical appearance makes you not like him, he has a way of getting others to trust him.  This guys pet parrot Iago is even devious and sarcastic.

7: Ursula from The Little Mermaid

The purple skinned half woman/half octopus (actually a squid because she only has 6 tentacles) is the sea witch.  One thing unlike other Disney villains she cares for her henchmen Flotsam and Jetsam more than anything else, when she kills them accidently she mourns the loss.  After her mourning though she directs all her anger on Ariel. Ursula is a very dark and sinister villain and has very potent magical abilities.

6: Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations

Well anyone that would set out to kill 99 puppies just to have a fur coat made of them is just evil. Not to mention the really bad hair coloring. I mean honestly who colors one half black and the other white?

5: Captain Hook from Peter Pan

Captain Hook

Well Captain Hook was the original Disney pirate long before Jack Sparrow. The Captain has given up his life on the high seas in order to seek revenge on Peter Pan. Peter Pan is responsible for the Captains hand being cut off and fed too a crocodile. In turn the crocodile develops a taste for the Captain and is always pursuing him. You almost feel bad for Hook as he loses to Peter Pan and still has a crocodile chasing after him. But how can you feel bad for a man who kills a member of his own crew just for singing?

4: Scar from The Lion King

In the wild the King is the Lion. Mufasa was the King and with the birth of his son Simba all hope was gone with Scar to rule. Scar was Mufasa’s brother.   This narcissist lion kills his brother and sets out to kill his nephew as well.   Blood means nothing to Scar as he just wants to be the King at any means necessary.

3: The Evil Queen from Snow White

evil queen

The Evil Queen was the first big screen animated villain. Just her look makes you know she is up to no good. She knows spells and is even able to turn herself into the Old Hag. This is the villain that gave stepmothers a bad name.

2: Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty

As the first woman of evil, Maleficent’s appearance alone makes her someone to be in fear of. She will do anything to achieve her goals. Think about it, it takes 3 fairy Godmothers to keep her at bay.   Did I also mention she can turn into a fire breathing dragon?  She is without a doubt the first woman of the Villains.

1: Chernabog from Fantasia

What can you say about Chernabog. He is a massive and all powerful demon. Just the sight of him makes you think he is demonic. To me and many others, Chernabog is the leader of all the Disney Villains.  No other character in the history of Disney Villains represents pure evil as Chernabog does.

Some other honorable mentions in no particular order include:

  • Lady Tremaine from Cinderella
  • Pete from Steamboat Willie
  • The Big Bad Wolf from the Three Little Pigs
  • Shan Yu from Mulan
  • Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Mother Gothel from Tangled

Please feel free to share your own lists.  I think I’m also going to work on a list in the next few days to list my “Live Action” villains favorites.  I’m going to have a hard time deciding who is my #1, there are so many good choices.
