‘Zootopia’ Producer Boasts Sequel “Better Than the First”

October 25, 2023

Earlier this year, Bob Iger (CEO of the Walt Disney Company) announced some of our favorite film franchises had sequels in development. Among the many listed, was a “Zootopia” sequel, which recently was chatted about by one of the film’s producers, who says the upcoming movie is one to definitely look out for!

Brad Simonsen, an associate producer on the first “Zootopia,” recently spoke to The Direct about Disney’s new “Once Upon a Studio” short (which includes multiple Zootopia characters). During the interview, he was asked about the work being done on “Zootopia 2,” and Simonsen hinted that the upcoming sequel is “as good or better” than the original movie.

“We’re all super excited about it,” Simonsen said. “And it’s a world that I was a part of the first movie, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, to be honest. And I know that this next one’s going to take it to another level and be, as you know, as good or better than the first. So we’re super excited about that project.”

At this time, not many details have been revealed bout the upcoming film. Continue to follow along with us as we learn more about the movie!

For those not familiar with the first “Zootopia,” here is the official synopsis from Disney:

“From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, the city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis where various animals live and thrive. When Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, she quickly learns how tough it is to enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, Judy jumps at the opportunity to solve a mysterious case. Unfortunately, that means working with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a wily fox who makes her job even harder.”
