James Gunn Considered Cutting a Guardian from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Spoiler Warning: for those who have not yet seen “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., this blog post will include major spoiling details from the film.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” really has served as a bit of a farewell for the intergalactic team as we see a few of the characters essentially give their goodbyes in the film. Well, according to director James Gunn, it seems one of the Guardians almost didn’t make the cut to appear in the film as he had seriously considered not including Gamora at all.

“That was a possibility, yes,” Gunn said in a new sit-down with the New York Times. “[Peter] would be dealing with her loss, but she wouldn’t come back and confront him in this different way. I toyed with it a lot as I was writing the script.”

However, Gunn decided to include Gamora after-all due to the fact that she had appeared in the franchise’s first two films and in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

“It’s something we do a lot in relationships anyway: We expect someone who reminds us of somebody from the past to be that somebody from the past,” the Gunn added. “Especially with women, Peter Quill defines people around him to suit his own needs as opposed to really looking and seeing who they actually are as human beings. And Gamora is just not the same Gamora. She’s a different person.”

If you’ve not yet seen it yet, here is the official synopsis for the third and final film in the trilogy series:

Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

What are your thoughts of James Gunn almost not including Zoe Saldana’s Gamora character in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Let us know in the comments! Would you have been disappointed if she hadn’t have been included in the film?
