‘Deadpool 3’ Writers Give Update, Say Disney’s ‘Very Supportive’ of R-Rated Humor

June 7, 2022 ,

“Deadpool 3” is officially in pre-production and we couldn’t be more excited! And to top off this amazing news is the fact that the film’s screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick just revealed in a new interview that the movie will hold true to its R-rated roots even though the 20th Century Fox-owned film series is now owned by Disney the company has been super cool about its adult content!

It goes without saying that The Walt Disney Company likes to keep things family friendly. However, when the company purchased 20th Century Fox a few years ago it was questioned what futures would come for the company’s more adult-themed content–including its “Deadpool” film series. Although, it seems all is the same per a recent interview the writers of the movie had with Den of Geek.

“They’ve been very supportive with regard to that,” Reese said of the franchise’s famously adult sense of humor. “Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”

In the same interview the duo expressed their excitement about the fact that the character will finally be moving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It’s an absolute thrill to have the band back together, to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, new villains, that kind of thing,” Reese said. “You know, it’s never a marriage we necessarily saw coming — Fox and Disney, that was an external thing [separate] from our storytelling process. But we’re absolutely finding the serendipity and the gold in that situation, or we’re trying to.”

What are your thoughts on Disney being very supportive of “Deadpool 3” and its adult-themed content writing? Let us know in the comments!
