Gone But Not Forgotten: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

April 24, 2019

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them – Walt Disney

As one of the Magic Kingdom’s opening day attractions, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was modeled after the Disneyland version with one difference; two separate boarding areas which allowed the vehicles to travel on separate tracks. This created a slightly different ride and scenes to pas through depending on the boarding location.

If boarding on the right track side, riders would go through the library, barnyard, through tunnels, courtroom, and jail cells. On the left track, riders passed through scenes not included on the right track. A kitchen, Gypsy camp, and Toad’s trophy room. In both, the vehicles turn onto the railroad tracks and come riders come face-to-face with a locomotive light prior to the last scene of the ride, known as the ‘Hell’ scene.

Not designed to be thrill ride, it made sudden turns and zoom full speed towards objects which would move out of the way at the last second. The ride closed in 1998 and was replaced with The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. There are still tributes to the ride including a picture on the Pooh ride and a statue of Mr. Toad in the pet cemetery outside of the Haunted Mansion.
