Today In Disney History ~ June 16th
Holidayland was a 9-acre picnic area near what is now New Orleans Square. The area had it’s own admission gate, and activities like horseshoes, baseball field, volleyball, and playgrounds. It also had the “World’s Largest Candy-Striped Circus Tent” that had been used before at the Mickey Mouse Club Circus and Keller’s Jungle Killers. The area sold food and concessions and was the only place to purchase beer. Holiday land was closed in September of 1961 as it had no shade, bathrooms or night lighting.
