Today in Disney’s History June 6th
America on Parade was a temporary replacement for Disneyland’s and the Magic Kingdom’s The Main Street Electrical Parade for the United States Bicentennial ran from June 14, 1975, through September 6, 1976. The parade ran once in the afternoon and once at night before the fireworks. The soundtrack for the parade was written by Don Dorsey, “The Glorious Fourth” was written just for the parade by the Sherman brothers. Bob Jani who created “Main Street Electrical Parade” also created “America on Parade”. The parade floats were designed by New York theatrical designer Peter Larkin.
An estimated 25 million park guests saw “America on Parade”. It ran 668 times at the Magic Kingdom and 678 in Disneyland. “America on Parade” was the first time the two parks jointly worked on a production that would appear at both parks at the same time.
