Happy Anniversary to Walt and Lillian!!!

On this date, in 1925, Walter Elias Disney married Lillian Marie Bounds.  The two met when Lillian actually went to work for Walt as a secretary and an “inker” of animated cels.  They were married at 918 Third Street in Lewiston, Idaho, the home of Sid O. Bounds who was Lillian’s brother and the Lewiston’s fire chief.  Lillian’s uncle gave the bride away, as her father was deceased.  Reverend D.J.W. Somerville performed the ceremony with Lillian’s sister Hazel Sewell and brother Sydney as witnesses.

Lillian wore a dress which she had made herself.  Her cousin later revealed that Lillian giggled nervously through the service.  Walt and Lillian had two daughters, Diane Marie Disney, born December 18, 1933, and Sharon Mae Disney, born on December 31, 1936, the latter of whom was adopted.

For their 30th wedding anniversary, the celebrated with guests at the not yet open, Disneyland.  Lillian invited guests to a “Tempus Fugit Celebration,” at six o’clock in the eventing.  As the guests arrived, they were transported down Main Street U.S.A. and into Frontierland via horse-drawn surreys.  From there, everyone took a ride around the Rivers of America aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat while sipping mint juleps.  Although they were already engaged, Roy E. Disney (Walt’s nephew) presented a ring to his fiance Patty.  E. Disney (Walt’s nephew) presents a ring to his fiance Patty.  Afterwards guests went to the Golden Horseshoe Saloon for dinner and the very first performance of a show called the Golden Horseshoe Revue, created by Wally Boag, the original Pecos Bill.
