You maybe wondering how does one become accredited. For The Seas, they underwent a thorough review to make sure they continue to meet the very high standards when it comes to animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, reserach and education, saftey, guest services, and quality of the staff.
This accreditation process is repeated every 5 years. There is an inspection team that comes on site that is made up of trained zoo and aquarium professionals to evaluate. They also meet with the employess, leadership and all involved in order to give their accreditation
Some points that were noted by the inspection team were:
- The Seas conservation programs, including its partnership with the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and conservation efforts in the state of Florida and beyond.
- Education programs that address both local and global conservation, including guests with special needs.
- Excellence in animal care, including enrichment, a strong program of veterinary care and nutrition, and research projects that foster animal health and knowledge focused on animals at The Seas and in the wild.
- Staff who are dedicated, knowledgeable and exhibit a spirit of teamwork.
Receiving this accreditation from AZA just shows how important and how much care is taken by Disney and their staff for the animals and also teaching families and children to protect the wildlife and nature.
