Magic Kingdom guests got an unexpected scare in Fantasyland this week after a fire broke out inside the showbuilding for “it’s a small world” on the morning of Wednesday, July 1.
Video circulating on TikTok shows Cast Members ushering guests out of the ride’s loading area as smoke fills the space, with one Cast Member seen using a fire extinguisher on one of the boats. No guests were riding at the time the fire started, and the queue had already been cleared by the time the footage was captured.

Riders who had been on the attraction shortly before the incident told the New York Post that the fire appeared to be caused by a portable phone charger inside a guest’s bag rather than anything related to the ride system itself. Disney has not officially confirmed the cause.
The attraction went down mid-morning and reopened to guests roughly 90 minutes later. As of now, “it’s a small world” is back up and running normally, with no lasting damage reported.
It’s a reminder for park guests: portable chargers and other lithium-battery devices can occasionally malfunction and overheat, so it’s worth keeping an eye on any battery packs riding along in your bag.
We’ll update this post if Disney releases any official statement on the incident.
