Disney Reveals New Magic of Disney Animation ExperienceDisney Reveals New Magic of Disney Animation Experience. The magic of Disney animation is about to come to life in an entirely new way at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney has officially shared new details about “The Magic of Disney Animation,” an exciting reimagining of the Animation Courtyard area that will invite guests to step directly into the creative world behind some of Disney’s most beloved animated classics. Featuring immersive play spaces, interactive experiences, character encounters, and nods to the real Walt Disney Animation Studios headquarters, this new offering looks poised to become a must-visit destination for families and Disney animation fans alike.

At the heart of the newly reimagined courtyard will be a building inspired by the iconic Roy E. Disney Animation Building in California, complete with the instantly recognizable Sorcerer Hat sitting atop the structure. The new area, called “The Magic of Disney Animation,” is scheduled to open later this summer and will serve as a celebration of Disney animation history, creativity, and imagination.

Inside, guests will discover a collection of interactive experiences themed around the various departments found within Walt Disney Animation Studios. Disney says familiar characters have “taken over” the studio spaces, creating playful adventures and hands-on moments for guests of all ages.

One of the major highlights will allow guests to see portraits magically come to life, inspired by the beloved animated short Once Upon A Studio. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn how to draw Disney characters through animation sketch experiences designed to inspire aspiring artists and Disney fans alike.

Disney describes the experience as a place where “kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore,” blending the wonder of Disney storytelling with the real-world artistry behind animation.

A major addition within the new space is “Drawn to Wonderland,” an immersive indoor playground inspired by the whimsical artwork of Disney Legend Mary Blair and the classic Alice in Wonderland.

Designed especially for younger guests, the vibrant play area brings Mary Blair’s distinctive artistic style to life through bold colors, imaginative environments, and interactive play zones. Families can explore areas inspired by the Mad Tea Party, the Mad Hatter’s home, the Queen of Hearts’ rose garden, and the mysterious Tulgey Wood inhabited by the Cheshire Cat.

Disney says the space was specifically designed to encourage exploration, creativity, movement, and imaginative play while fully immersing guests in Disney storytelling.

Another exciting section of the experience is “Off the Page!” — an area celebrating the artistry and technical process behind Disney animation while featuring character encounters with fan-favorite Disney characters.

Each themed room represents a different stage of animation production. Guests may encounter:

  • Mulan in the Story department
  • Rapunzel in Layout
  • Chip ‘n’ Dale in Hand-Drawn Animation
  • Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in Computer Animation
  • Goofy in Lighting
  • Stitch in Effects

Each environment has been carefully crafted to showcase different aspects of the animation process while creating immersive character interaction opportunities and unique photo locations for guests.

Disney also revealed that Walt Disney Imagineering worked closely with Walt Disney Animation Studios during development to ensure authenticity throughout the experience. Dan Abraham, director and co-director of Once Upon A Studio, shared excitement about inspiring guests through the new offering and celebrating the creativity that fuels Disney animation.

With interactive experiences, imaginative play spaces, beloved Disney characters, and a deeper look into the artistry behind animated storytelling, The Magic of Disney Animation appears set to become one of the most charming additions to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in recent years. For longtime Disney animation fans and young dreamers alike, this new experience promises to capture the heart, creativity, and wonder that have defined Disney animation for generations.
