Disney Reconsiders Live-Action “Snow White” After Peter Dinklage Calls out Use of Dwarves

January 25, 2022

Last year Disney revealed its plan for another live-action remake of one of its iconic classics–“Snow White.” However, after Peter Dinklage called out the company’s use of dwarves in the original film on a recent podcast, it seems the company is now reconsidering the direction it plans to take with the upcoming project.

Dinklage, most known for his role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” appeared on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast on Monday where he spoke out against the film, calling the use of dwarves “F–king backwards.”

“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,’ ” Dinklage said.

“Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f – – king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f – – k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough,” the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star added.

He continued, “If you tell the story of ‘Snow White’ with the most f – – ked up, cool or progressive spin on it? Let’s do it. All in.”

Following Dinklage’s comment on the film, Disney released a statement to the Hollywood Reporter stating they will be working with culture consultants to “avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film.”

“…we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter’s report, the spokesperson declined to give descriptions of what these characters might look like in the film.
