Deadline and Variety are both reporting that Anthony Mackie will be suiting up again in Marvel Studios upcoming film, Captain America 4.  No official date or title for the film has been announced yet.  The film will be co-written by “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” head writer Malcolm Spellman.

Anthony Mackie’s character Sam Wilson aka Falcon, debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe first in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. Since then, Anthony has reprised the role in five more films.  In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed on Captain America’s Shield to Sam Wilson.  Over the course of the show “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+, Sam took on the mantle of Captain America.

Back in April, Variety first reported that the fourth installment of Captain America was in development with Spellman handling the script along with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” staff writer Dalan Musson.  Currently no director has been set for the film or other casting.  I would think some of the cast from the Disney+ series will be included such as Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier/White Wolf).  Wyatt Russell, whose character John Walker temporarily held the Captain America shield before revealing himself to be unworthy of it.  Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, looks to be making appearances the same way Agent Phil Coulson did in the earlier films.  I think we may see Emily VanCamp return as Sharon Carter based on “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” show.

Marvel Studios current lineup of coming films for 2021 include “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Eternals” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. In 2022, Marvel has “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and the “Captain Marvel” sequel “The Marvels.”  We most likely won’t see Captain America 4 till at least 2023.
