TMSM’s Adventures in Florida Living ~ Family First

Happy Wednesday Everyone! So this week really isn’t a Florida Living update, not like usual.  It’s mostly Michigan. Lets get right to it!

With the end of summer vacation for the kids looming, we had been trying to think of something to do with the boys.  I absolutely hate that they go back to school so early, I really miss how it was up North, after Labor Day.  We had an opportunity to go out to Disneyland, but something inside me wasn’t feeling it.  Granted, I want to go back to Disneyland again pretty badly, but I also wanted to see my family, so Michigan won out.  Family first.  On Thursday we left super early for the airport, with very little sleep.  If you’ve been reading my blogs for awhile now, then you know I have an irrational fear of flying.  With time being a factor, flying was the only way to go.  While sitting on the plane waiting to take off, the pilot announced that there was a crack in a valve inside the engine, and we had to get off the plane.  For someone with a horrible fear, this didn’t sit well with me.  They had the plane fixed in about an hour, and even though I was terrified, we landed safely at Detroit Metro Airport.  Thank God.  My dad picked us up, and we went to my parents house.  I hadn’t seen my nephew since he was about a week old, so I was itching to get my hands on that sweet baby!  My sister in law brought him over to visit, and they stayed for the rest of the day. Of course we had to order some Michigan food too, so pizza was on the list! My friend Michelle came over as well, one half of the “Michigan Besties” as people call them. It was so nice to be home.

Friday was street fair day. Back when we were Michigan residents, each year there was an arts and crafts fair in our hometown that was close to where we lived. It was something that I personally looked forward to, I had been taking the boys there since the time they were babies. We parked a few blocks away and started walking towards the fair. It’s bittersweet truly. Being home and walking where we used to walk made so many memories come flooding back. I remember when the kids were babies, toddlers, etc.. putting them in a wagon and walking up there. Now they’re big and I’m left to wonder how time has gone so fast. Sometimes I wish I could go back and freeze time, and just be in the moment with the kids again when they were small. But, being on our old stomping ground with them was nice. We saw our old next door neighbor, got something to eat, and bought a few things. We had a custom TMSM sign made by one of the crafters, but it wouldn’t fit in our bag so my mom is holding it for us until we come home at Christmas time. I’m so glad that we were able to go to the fair for a few hours, it was a lot of fun.

On Saturday, we had a family day at my parents house. The weather was hot so swimming was on the agenda. Most of our family was there, including my Gram, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and Paula the other half of the “Michigan Besties.” The weather was beautiful, I think the boys swam the entire day. It was much needed. Later that evening we went to get ice cream, the perfect ending to a fabulous day.

The rest of our visit was pretty low key. Just more family time. We got to see my nephew again so the boys got to play with him. That baby is adorable, and I’m not just saying it because he’s related to me. I feel like I miss so much being so far away from home, but my job is here in Florida, so I just do the best I can with visits. Truth be told though, I can’t wait to take that little guy to Disney eventually, you know I’ll be spoiling him and won’t even be sorry for it. Isn’t that what Aunties are for? I’d say so. The visit home went by SO fast. The boys had eye appointments today plus an open house at school so we had to be back. School starts on Monday, it’s crazy. We have so much to do before then, it will get done, I’m just not happy about the school year starting already. Time really flies.

Well, that’s it for this week. I’m hoping to get in a little fun time with the kids before Monday, in between school shopping and such. We shall see. Whatever happens, you know I’ll tell you all about it the next time we talk! Until then, sending you lots of love, blessings and pixie dust! See ya real soon! ~M
