I apologize for the delay in getting out my Loot Crate review for the month of January.  It’s been a very hectic last 2 weeks and i’m sorry, however the January LootCrate was one that I was so excited to get.  If you follow our blogs here, you will remember, just over 2 weeks ago I did a review of the new Star Wars #1 comic from Marvel.  When I got the comic the day it came out, I also got all the different variant covers that were available, but one I didn’t even realize was coming out, till I got this month’s Loot Crate.  Read on:

Notice the variant cover of Star Wars #1 created just for LootCrate

This months crate focused on REWIND!.  With this Loot Crate, they spun the hands of time backwards to REWIND! It doesn’t matter how old (or young) you are, there’s always something from the past that’s hard not to love.  Whether you love to reminisce on dropping quarters in your favorite arcade game with your best friends, or wishing you could still watch your favorite Saturday morning cartoons, get ready to sit back and REWIND!

This months magazine brought me back to my childhood, between the cassette tape and the Nintendo controller, I felt like I was just got out of the Back to the Future Delorean.  The magazine had an interesting article about Nintendo and it’s history in the gaming world.  The article did mention how Nintendo is viewed as the grandfather of gaming.  It wasn’t the first on the scene, but I do have a lot of respect for it.  My favorite is still Atari.

The next article talked about something I haven’t heard or thought about in years, Voltron.  If you recall, Voltron was a cartoon where 5 Lions would come together and form the protector Voltron of the planet Planet Arus.  This was a great reminder of something I sadly forgot.

As always, the box is a prize in itself.  I don’t normally take the box and fold it into what it creates, but I did find out it looks like a NES and there is a controller in the magazine.

One more note from the first pic, the monthly button.  I have to say, I love seeing the monthly button.  They are just cool little pieces of the crate that I look forward to seeing each and every month.

The first item I noticed was a little box labeled BlackTieGeek.  Having no idea what this was, I of course grabbed it first.  It was just like it said, a black tie, but with a twist.  This tie was inspired by one of my favorite early arcade games, any guesses?

Next we got a 10-Doh! exclusive figure for Loot Crate.  I the Dr. Who one.  This is a cool little collectible to put on my shelf.  It’s a smaller version of the NES console games from the 80’s and 90’s.

This month did have a great t-shirt and going back to something I spoke about earlier in this article, Voltron is featured in this great shirt.  This shirt isn’t just a picture of Voltron, but rather a blueprint of the protector of Planet Arus.  I have a feeling I’m going to get a lot of “Where did you get that?” when I wear this out.

We got a great little Pocket Notebook that makes it a bit easier to create your own comic book.  I think these little books are fun.  Especially to take to Comic Con.  I was able to take one I have and got some of the great artists to sign them and draw a little image in the box.

I got a great pair of 8-big sunglasses.  These glasses are actually very durable and will last.  Being one that breaks or looses his sunglasses often, I’m always on the look out for a new pair that will last.  These are good and strong and don’t forget, Orange is the new Black so they are very fashionable.

Last, but least…..

Like I talked about in the beginning, a variant cover of Star Wars #1 from Marvel.  How great is this to add to a collection.  This is not one that everyone can get their hands on.  This is a big collectors edition and I already have mine put away.  I was excited, Han and Chewie are 2 of my all time favorite characters from Lucas’s Space Opera.

So there you have it, my January Loot Crate.  This was another amazing crate.  They pack so much in the box for less than $20, it’s really a great value.  This also makes a great gift for the gamer or comic fan in your life.
