It’s Thursday, and time for our weekly Random Acts of Kindness article. This week’s blog is a little different, but I feel the meaning is super important. As you know, I’m a new Florida resident, but my heart is still back home in Michigan. I still keep up with family and friends back home daily, thank God for social media, it helps so much. Well yesterday,a classmate from elementary school, lost her precious son from a battle with Cystic Fibrosis. My home town of Allen Park Michigan rallied around this family, holding fund raisers, selling t-shirts, making ribbons, extended lots of prayers, etc. I have followed along and was praying too for this boy to be healed, and sadly it didn’t happen. He was only 14. Out of something so tragic, where do we find solace or make sense of it all? Do things like this teach us lessons? Maybe so.
Running a large website with members from all over the world, we see lots of opinions and views. We see the happiness that Disney brings, but we also see a down side of complaints and such. Sure, nothing is perfect, and frustrations do arise. However, in the grand scheme of things, is the small stuff worth stressing over? I’d say no. As parents, we all want the best for our children, no matter what. As Disney parents, we want our kids to experience all that we can offer them on vacations, like character dining, souvenirs, rides, parades, etc. Sometimes in all the fray we forget what’s actually important, like spending time with our kids or loved ones, no matter what we’re doing. I’m guilty of it too, getting stressed over the day to day occurrences and such, but hearing a story like the one back home is a HUGE reminder. Don’t sweat the small stuff, be grateful you have the people you love in your life.
Last night, after hearing what happened, it made me pause. In my own life there are things that get me down and stress me out, but do those things really matter? Instead of looking at the things we don’t have, I think it’s important to be thankful for what we DO have. For the people we have. Nothing in life is a guarantee and things can change in the blink of an eye. This horrible tragedy, and stories like it, are a reminder to truly count our blessings and be thankful for what we have. Extending extra kindness in life doesn’t take too much effort, and it really does go a long, long way. For Disney fans, instead of complaining that we can’t get a certain FastPass or Dining reservation, we should be thankful we are able to spend time at Disney with family and friends. There are people who only wish they could. This blog isn’t meant to sound preachy, it’s just me thinking out loud as to how blessed we really are, and to be thankful. Disney “magic” and the sense of community we all feel together is so much more than parks or movies, it’s a genuine caring and appreciation for like minded friends who in turn become our extended family. We should appreciate each other, our families and friends, and not take things for granted. Remember to be kind and patient, it could mean the world to someone who really needs it.
My heart and prayers go out to this young man’s family and friends. He made an impact on our community that won’t soon be forgotten. God Bless that precious angel. Hug those you love a little tighter tonight Main Streeters. Sending you all peace, love and pixie dust. ~M
