Star Wars: The Force Awakens Gives Trailer Character Names

J.J. Abrams, co-writer / director along with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy dropped the names for the characters we met about 2 weeks ago in the much anticipated trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  We no longer need to say the Sith or the girl on the speeder.  They have names.

In reaching back to the nostalgia of Star Wars, the names were released on fake Topps trading cards exclusively to Entertainment Weekly.  Shortly after the first film was released in 1977, Topps put out 5 rounds of trading cards depicting different characters and scenes from the film.

J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy released only 8 cards, which fills us in on everyone in the trailer.  Will there be more cards?  Only time will tell, but we do know there are other characters cast for the film in addition to the originals who have returned.

Without further delay, here are the 8 cards released:

First up, even though fans know these ships, it was nice to see how they will appear in the film

At the opening of the trailer, we saw the character in the Stormtrooper armour, minus the helmet.  His name is Finn and we find out he is on the run in the scene.

Next we find the name of the woman on the speeder, its Rey

I saved the Sith for last.  Now all the Sith’s we have known to this point all had the surname of Darth, but it appears that patten is over.  The Sith that ignites his lightsaber is known as Kylo Ren.  One thing we know from the previous films, when it comes to the Sith there is always a master and an apprentice.  We don’t know which Kylo is or if he is all alone, but it’s nice to have a name now.
