Have you ever dreamed of conquering runDisney’s “Expedition Everest Challenge” the combined 5k run and scavenger hunt held in the Animal Kingdom Park? Well if so when registration opens on 12/16/14 for the 2015 Expedition Everest Challenge, TMSM recommends you be ready to sign up! Why the urgency you ask? Well Main Streeters it seems that runDisney will no longer be hosting the Expedition Everest Challenge after 2015!
Though runDisney has not made an official announcement regarding the future of this event after it is held on 5/2/15 they have recently gone through and quietly modified the wording on the official Expedition Everest Challenge website to reflect the upcoming changes to the event. The new runDisney wording announces that 2015 is the final year of the Everest Challenge with statements like “Going, going, gone!” “the final run of the Expedition Everest Challenge!”; “take the Expedition Everest Challenge during its final run. “; “Take a final run on the wild side ; “one of the final runners who faced the Expedition Everest Challenge” and “during the very last Expedition Everest Challenge.”
There currently is no word confirmed about a new race taking the place of the Expedition Everest Challenge in the 2016 runDisney schedule. This is not the first Walt Disney World based runDisney event to get cancelled this year. Earlier this fall they also retired the “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler” from it’s 2015 schedule while adding new races to the schedule like the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend, Castaway Challenge and Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon events well into the year meaning there is always a chance of new runDisney events to being announced for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
The first Expedition Everest Challenge was held on 9/27/08 and it seems the last will be held on 5/2/15.
