Hurry up and wait……

I don’t know about you, but for me, Disney is one big waiting game. It feels like I’m always waiting for something when it’s Disney related. The biggest wait, of course, is waiting for your Disney Vacation to finally come around. It’s torture. It’s like watching paint dry. Maybe worse than watching paint dry. I have never in all my life felt this way about any other destination. If I knew I had a trip planned for, say, Cedar Point for the weekend, I’d be happy. Happy and looking forward to going I’d say. Would I be jumping out of my skin, counting days, planning an itinerary, pre-planning on what snacks I want to get? Umm, no. Only Disney stirs up those feelings. The wait isn’t fun.

So, your vacation has finally come. You’re checking into your resort, getting all your goodies from the front desk, etc. You go check out your room, look through your maps, and the excitement is flowing. What a great feeling! The wait is over! Or is it?? No, not really. What else are you waiting for? Well, waiting in lines at the parks, waiting for your FastPass time to come around, waiting for your reservation time at your favorite restaurant, or waiting for a parade to start. Those aren’t bad waits, but I think they still count. See, Disney is a waiting game! I would take waiting in line at an attraction over waiting for a vacation any day!

Unfortunately, your vacation flies by. All that waiting and planning, and it’s over so fast. The memories are wonderful, and you can’t wait to go back. Hence, the wait starts over. How long until we can go back to Disney? You start to plot and plan. Here we go again! For me, I’m still in the plotting and planning phase. I’m itching to get back to Disney. But, I’m waiting. At this stage of the game, I’m watching to see the offers that Disney has yet to put out. In the past, the last week of August, into the first week of September, has been a great time for Disney deals. It’s our time. Actually, many dates in the Fall have been good previously for travel specials. Disney usually offers Free Dining starting then, but they haven’t announced anything for late Summer thus far. If history repeats itself, it’s coming. If not, then we make a new plan. Either way, we sit and wait. If we get lucky, we book a trip, and wait for it to come. It’s a vicious cycle, but oh so worth it.

No matter where you are at in your Disney waiting game, there is excitement somewhere behind it. Disney is different. We get irritated when we have to wait at the doctor’s office, standing in line at the grocery store, getting stuck in traffic, etc. Not fun. Waiting on Disney isn’t so bad. I guess I should enjoy the moments, no matter where I’m at in the waiting process. It’s like the movie Groundhog Day. Plan a trip, wait for that trip, trip goes by fast, wait on another trip. Wash, rinse, repeat. Same thing over and over again. Would I change it? Probably not. It comes with the territory when you love Disney. So, until the next phase….. I wait.
