Vintage Walt Disney World: Boxing Day at the Canada Pavilion

December 26, 2013

Today, many countries celebrate Boxing Day including our friends to the North, Canada. As a special Boxing Day treat, here’s a look at the Canada Pavilion still under construction from January 1982.

If only I could figure out how to wrap up some Canadian Cheese Soup and ship it to myself for Boxing Day. It would be the perfect gift as I visit family up North (although I won’t be quite as far as Canada).

I had to look up Boxing Day, truthfully. When I think of boxing I think of the sport, but that’t not what Boxing Day is about! Historically, Boxing Day is the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a “Christmas box”, from their bosses or employers. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December. It is observed in the United Kingdom, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and some other Commonwealth nations.

So, to all our International Disney Family, Happy Boxing Day from us to you!
