It has been a very hard and trying week for America. The bombings at the Boston Marathon brought so much heartache and despair to those who were there, and to people throughout the world. Then there’s the tragedy in Texas, where more people were left wondering why things like this happen. I too wonder, why bad things happen to good people. I have no idea.
On Monday afternoon, once the news of the bombing at the Boston Marathon hit, I wasn’t sure what to do or say. Being that The Main Street Mouse has a larger platform now, both here and on Facebook, I wanted our site to act accordingly to what just happened. I felt it was on me to do the right thing, so I decided to make our site and FB page silent for the rest of the day. It was done out of pure respect to those who were affected by the tragedy. When senseless acts like this are done, there really isn’t anything to say. Nothing can make it better, or take away the hurt. We offer our support and prayers though, of course. I just knew that I couldn’t continue to share the “magic” that day, it didn’t seem appropriate. Showing respect was what I felt was the most appropriate thing to do.
We had a discussion on FB the next day, in regards to traveling to Disney, and if we should be worried. Disney is such a large place, that gathers millions of people together. A target, maybe? So what do we do, stay home? No. We can’t be intimidated by terrorists who want to break down the spirit of the United States, and whose goal is for us to be afraid. If we run and hide, then they win. If we stop doing the things we enjoy, like visiting Disney Parks, then that’s a score for them as well. As scary as it is, we really do have to move forward, and keep living our lives the way we want to. The only way these horrible people can steal our sunshine, is if we LET them.
While keeping those affected in our thoughts and prayers, we press on. There are so many things in life that are tragic and sad. Too many things. We as Disney Enthusiasts look to our love of Disney to keep us happy, wanting to make great family memories, and to have something to look forward to, like our next vacation. The reason I post silly pictures in addition to Disney news or whatever, is to make our members laugh and smile. Some get it, some don’t, but there’s a method to my madness. Life is stressful, and there will always be something to worry about. Creating smiles, even if it’s just for a minute, is worth taking the time to find things to post or blog about. So, I will do my best to bring you all Disney Magic every day, and maybe help take your mind off of things that bring you down. It’s important to have outlets that take us away from our troubles, and since we can’t live in the Castle, we find other ways. TMSM is another way.
