“All of us at Turner Classic Movies are deeply saddened by the death of Robert Osborne,” said Turner Classic Movies General Manager Jennifer Dorian. “Robert was a beloved member of the Turner family for more than 23 years. He joined us as an expert on classic films and grew to be our cherished colleague and esteemed ambassador for TCM.

“Robert was embraced by devoted fans who saw him as a trusted expert and friend. His calming presence, gentlemanly style, encyclopedic knowledge of film history, fervent support for film preservation and highly personal interviewing style all combined to make him a truly world-class host. Robert’s contributions were fundamental in shaping TCM into what it is today and we owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.”

Robert Osborne was an Actor, film historian and since 1994, when Turner Classic Movies debuted, Mr. Osborne has been the network host. In 2015, The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios went through an upgrade.  Turner Classic Movie became the sponsor of the attraction and Mr. Osborne was added to the attraction as a narrator.  While in line, movies are played on a large screen while Mr. Osborne narrated and gave bits of trivia about the stars of the films.

Once on board the ride, Mr. Osborne narrated part of the ride interacting with the cast member giving the actual tour.  At the end of the ride, the car would move into a theater area where Mr. Osborne would thank the guests and show a montage of some of the greatest movie moments in history.

Robert Osborne was 84.  On behalf of TMSM and our entire staff, our condolences go out to Mr. Osborne’s family, friends and fans, may he rest in peace.
