Disney Urban Legends…… Where do they come from?

This month’s issue of our new magazine, The Main Street Monthly, has a fantastic article about Disney Urban Legends.  I read the article, some I knew, some stories I didn’t, and I’d say two of them were downright terrifying. The last one on the list, kept me awake at night, I was that freaked out. That being said, it got me to thinking…. Where do these Disney urban legends come from, and how many people believe that they are true?

It’s true, people like to talk and spread good stories. I like to hear a good spooky tale or two as well, it always makes me wonder where the stories came from. Most urban legends have a pinch of truth to them somewhere in the story, it’s just hard to figure out which part exactly is correct. The one I most often hear is about Walt Disney being cryogenically frozen after he passed away, in the hopes of one day a cure for cancer being found, and he can be brought back to life. Well, if only. We all miss Walt, and I think that’s where this story stems from. Of course it’s not true, but maybe those who started the tale just really wished there was a way for Walt to be back among us again. I’m not sure. When I was a kid, I thought this was possibly true, but I think inside me there was just hope maybe. Not true, but interesting enough to where it took on a life of it’s own!

Other interesting Disney urban legends are tales of certain rides and attractions being haunted. This too is fascinating to me. For instance, in our magazine article, there are talks of the Tower of Terror being haunted, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion too. One story even had a picture of “proof” allegedly to go with it. That’s some creepy stuff. You’d be amazed what you can find once you start digging in and researching history and such where Disney is involved. So, where do those stories come from? Truth, or maybe some Cast Members having a little fun at our expense?  I’m not saying I believe in urban legends when it comes to Disney, but it’s a lot of fun reading about them. You can check out our top 10 Disney Urban Legends in this month’s magazine at www.themainstreetmonthly.com. What about you, do you believe in Disney urban legends? If so, which ones? Be sure to tell us about it, you could be in a future article! Thanks! ~M
