Today In Disney History ~ August 6th

The Flying Saucers were open from 8/6/61-8/5/66. The ride was originally located in Tomorrowland, and worked very much like the Luigi’s Flying Tires ride that recently closed in Disney California Adventure. The ride cars were circular and had large round plates under them. The floor of the ride was a large metal “table” with air blasts that would push the lowered plated under the saucers up so that they were floating just above the “table.” To move the saucer guests would have to shift their weight from side to side and back to front.
