Hollywood Studios Magic of Disney Animation and DisneyQuest Closing

June 30, 2015

Disney has confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel that not one, but two guest favorites will be closing. Yesterday it was confirmed bu Disney that Disney’s Hollywood Studios would be closing the Magic of Animation on July 12, 2015. The Animation Gallery will stay open until late August. What this means is that the character meet and greets, Mushu animation movie, and most importantly to many parents the Animation Academy will be closing.

Many changes seem to be coming to Hollywood Studios. Over the last twelve months Hollywood Studios has had several other attractions closed. Studios Backlot Tour, American Idol Experience, and The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow and the iconic Sorcerer’s Hat was removed.  A third track for Toy Story Mania was announced and confirmed in March. Also in March at the annual Stock Holder meeting, a quick witted 6-year old by the name of Gideon managed to get Bob Iger to confirm the name of the park WOULD be changing, but Iger refused to go into detail on what the new name would be. Currently though Disney has not made ANY confirmed announcements to what will be going in the place of the closed attractions or what the new park name will be.

Disney’s continued expansion and growth isn’t just effecting Disney Parks favorites either. Today we learned of yet another confirmed closing. Earlier this month we announced that the NBA Experience would be coming to Disney Springs. Today Disney has confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel that coming 2017 DisneyQuest will be closed to make way for the NBA Experience. The new NBA Experience will be replacing NBA City which is will be closing this August at  Universal Orlando’s Citywalk. For those worried about the Cast Members at Disney Quest that will be effected by this latest closing, the Orlando Sentinel made sure to address the topic. “Ed Chambers, president of the Service Trades Council coalition of Disney unions, said new jobs will be available for DisneyQuest workers.”
