Reports are coming out that Paul Rudd will play Ant-Man in the film that is slated for July 31, 2015. The film will be directed by Edgar Wright.
Now some may ask, who is Ant-Man exactly? Well there are actually 2 different stories they could go with. One is of Scott Lang, who is a reformed thief who became a hero in the 1970’s. The 2nd and the one I personally hope they go with is Dr. Hank Pym who became known as Ant-Man. Dr. Pym is one of the founding members of the Avengers. He had the power to shrink to the size of an Ant. In addition to Ant-Man, Dr. Pym assumed other super hero identities including: the size-changing Giant-Man and Goliath; the insect-themed Yellowjacket; and briefly the Wasp.
I don’t think they will go with the Scott Lang version. I believe the Dr. Pym character will fit better into the cinematic universe being created. Also, a scientific genius with a Ph.D in Biochemistry, along with expertise in the fields of quantum physics, robotics/cybernetics, artificial intelligence, and entomology will be great along side Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.
One thing to note also, in the next Avengers film we already know the bad guy is going to be Ultron. Ultron was the creation of Dr. Pym. I will be excited to see how they introduce this character and when we will see it. As we get more news, we will be sure to share it with you.
