The first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday dropped and it is already rewriting the record books. According to Variety, the footage pulled in 503 million views in its first 24 hours, making it the second biggest trailer launch in film history behind only Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which sits at the top with 703 million views. For Disney and Marvel Studios specifically, this is the biggest trailer debut ever, surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine’s Super Bowl spot, which had previously topped out at 365 million views.
The trailer gave fans their first real look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, including his costume and a Latverian accent that immediately had the internet buzzing. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are shown teaming up with the Fantastic Four, Wakanda, and even the Fox X-Men, setting the stage for what could be one of the most ambitious crossover events the MCU has ever attempted. Advance ticket sales are also off to a record setting start, adding even more momentum just days before Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday.
