Haunted Mansion fans have a little bit of both good news and bad news heading into the fall. Disneyland’s classic attraction is closing for a short refurbishment next month, but Disney is also confirming a brand-new manga series for the franchise.

Haunted Mansion Closing for Its Holiday Transformation
If a trip to Disneyland is on your calendar and Haunted Mansion is on your must-do list, take note: the attraction will close from August 8 through August 20, 2026. As always, it’s worth double-checking scheduled closures before locking in park plans, since Disneyland and Walt Disney World routinely take rides offline for maintenance or seasonal changes.

This particular closure is a happy one. Imagineers will use the downtime to convert the ride into “Haunted Mansion Holiday,” the seasonal overlay inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. The attraction is set to reopen on August 21, 2026, timed to coincide with the start of Disneyland’s Halloween Time celebration. In other words, the wait is short, and it ends right as the spooky season kicks off.
Stray Spirits Manga Arrives This October
The bigger news for franchise fans is the announcement of Disney The Haunted Mansion – Stray Spirits, a new manga series from Tokyopop. Issue #1 releases October 14, 2026, in comic shops and on digital platforms for $4.99 for the 32-page debut.

The story follows 12-year-old Adrienne, a girl who feels overlooked at home and struggles at school. Her only real friend is a one-eyed stray cat who lives on the grounds of a mysterious mansion nearby. When the cat suddenly bolts inside acting strangely, Adrienne chases after him and discovers the mansion is home to far more than just her feline friend: a house full of ghosts, with the cat causing plenty of mischief among them. To find her way back home, Adrienne will need to clean up after her troublemaking cat and win over the mansion’s happy haunts along the way.
Stray Spirits comes from writer Sammie Crowle, artist Francesca Follini, and colorist Pascal Tora, and adds to a franchise that’s grown well beyond the original ride. Haunted Mansion first opened at Disneyland in 1969, followed by the Walt Disney World version in 1971, and has since expanded into comics, video games, TV projects, and film, including the 2003 Eddie Murphy movie and Disney’s 2023 reboot.
Between a quick refurbishment and a new story format on the way, it’s shaping up to be a busy season for one of Disney’s most enduring haunted attractions.
