The trailer, which dropped in both English and Japanese, debuted during a special panel at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, where supervising director Kenji Kamiyama, director Shunsuke Tada, and producer Hitoshi Ito appeared on stage to discuss the project.

Kara’s Journey Continues

The Ninth Jedi expands on two beloved Star Wars: Visions shorts: “The Ninth Jedi” from Volume 1 and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” from Volume 3. The new eight-episode limited series continues to follow Lah Kara, a young woman strong with the Force who is only just beginning her path as a Jedi.

Kara resumes her quest to rescue her father, the sabersmith Lah Zhima, who was captured by Jedi Hunters. Continuing her training under Margrave Juro, Kara sets out alongside a group of fellow Jedi apprentices on a rescue mission that promises the same blend of samurai-inspired lightsaber action that made the original shorts fan favorites.

Produced by Lucasfilm alongside acclaimed Japanese animation studio Production I.G, The Ninth Jedi is written by Mitsuyasu Sakai. James Waugh, Jacqui Lopez, Josh Rimes, Justin Leach, and Mitsuhisa Ishikawa serve as executive producers.

Cast

Several voice actors are returning for the English dub alongside a handful of new additions:

  • Kimiko Glenn as Kara
  • Andrew Kishino as Juro
  • Masi Oka as Ethan
  • Patrick Seitz as Homen
  • JP Karliak as Gramps
  • Simu Liu as Lah Zhima
  • Neil Kaplan as narrator
  • Feodor Chin as Gennoh (new)
  • Young Mazino as Nawaam (new)
  • Chase Sui Wonders as Tafflah (new)
  • Keone Young as Kwana (new)

When and Where to Watch

Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi premieres August 5 at 3:00 a.m. ET / midnight PT, with all eight episodes releasing at once on Disney+ and Hulu. The series was first announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan in 2025, and its first episode also screened for fans at Anime Expo ahead of the full series debut.

Given the acclaim for the original Visions shorts, expectations are running high for this full-length expansion of Kara’s story.
