Its Official the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is Permanently Retired

Brace yourselves, Disney fans, because this one stings a little. Disney has confirmed that the beloved gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa will not return for the 2026 holiday season, and it is not coming back at all. After more than 25 years as one of Walt Disney World’s most magical holiday traditions, the iconic life-sized structure has been permanently retired.

It's Official: The Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Is Permanently Retired

The Grand Floridian gingerbread house debuted back in 1999 and quickly became a must-see seasonal destination for guests staying at or visiting the resort. Built fresh each year by Disney’s incredibly talented culinary team, the Victorian-inspired showpiece took up residence in the resort’s Grand Lobby and required staggering amounts of ingredients to construct, including over 1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, and 600 pounds of powdered sugar. Guests could walk up close to admire the craftsmanship and even purchase holiday treats sold right from inside the structure. It was, by every measure, one of the most special things Walt Disney World offered during the Christmas season. The display had already been absent during the 2025 holiday season while lobby renovations were underway, and many fans were hopeful it would make a triumphant return once that work was complete. Unfortunately, those hopes have now been officially dashed.

In its place, Disney’s culinary teams will create new miniature holiday displays throughout the resort. Specifics have not been announced yet, and Disney has said additional details about gingerbread displays across all Walt Disney World resorts will be shared later this year. The good news is that other resort gingerbread experiences, including the beloved carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, the gingerbread Cinderella Castle display at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the BoardWalk Inn gingerbread house, animal-themed gingerbread at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and a chocolate cabin at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, are all expected to continue as usual. The changes appear to be limited specifically to the Grand Floridian.

It is hard not to feel a little nostalgic about this one. The Grand Floridian gingerbread house was a true Walt Disney World institution, and for a lot of families it was a holiday trip must-do year after year. Whether the new miniature displays will capture that same magic remains to be seen, but we will be watching closely when details roll out later this season.
